If loving you is wrong I don’t want to be right: Is my heated mattress pad going to kill me?

p3039162dt My new favorite guilty pleasure is my heated mattress pad I got a Fred Meyer (for 75% off last April!).  After a long day just knowing my bed will be toasty warm when I get in is so exciting!  (Yes, in the past I’ve been accused of being too easy to please).

But just like cell phone and electric clock cancer/brain tumor hysteria, it just can’t be good for me to sleep right on top of running current all night every night (except the summer which is about four months here).  Check out this story on engadget:

“The WHO and other health specialists are now beginning to blame electromagnetic fields as being a “likely cause” of up to 30% of childhood cancers, adult leukemia, depression, brain cancers, possibly breast cancer, and even up to 1/10th of all miscarriages.”

So I could turn it off while I sleep but is the electricity still in the wires if it’s plugged in?  Even if I unplugged it are my sheets now electrically charged?  Am I inviting trouble?
